Cyber attack hits global meat processing giant JBS, operations halted in US, Canada and Australia facilities

The world’s largest meat processing company, JBS Foods, has fallen victim to a cyber attack, cutting off its meat production worldwide including Australia.

The company’s chief executive Brent Eastwood in an interview to Beef Central that the company’s information systems were targeted in the attack.

The company runs the largest network of meat production facilities and feedlots in Australia; it has also meat processing in the Americas, Canada and Brazil.

Federal Agriculture Minister David Littleproud confirmed the government was aware of the incident and was working to for the resumption of the company’s operations nationally.

“We’re obviously working with law enforcement here in Australia and we’re also working with our international partners,” Mr Littleproud said.

Jon Condon – a publisher at news and market intelligence service for the Australian beef industry, Beef Central, said the impact of the attack depended on how long the company’s operations remained closed.
