A security breach at BuyUCoin cryptocurrency exchange has reportedly led to the data of its traders become leaked underground.
The Indian cryptocurrency exchange says that is investigating claims that sensitive data of its users has been leaked and is available for a free download online.
The leaked data is said to have been found in a MongoDB database that was left unsecured by the company and included its user’s bank account details, names, email addresses, phone numbers and transaction records.
The alleged data breach is thought to be the work of the ShinyHunters gang, which has a history of carrying out such hacking attacks in the past.
The authenticity of the claims has been confirmed by existing customers of BuyUCoin, including security researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia, as they found their own information in the leaked data.
However, for now at least, BuyUCoin has denied an incident of a data breach dismissing the reports as a “rumor”.
