My Photo Stream Pulls a Magic Disappearing Act!

Bye Bye, My Photo Stream

My Photo Stream, our handy-dandy iCloud service since 2011, has decided to pack its bags and retire to a remote island with no Wi-Fi (honestly, we can’t blame it). The curtains will close for the final time on July 26, 2023, with new photo uploads getting the red light a month earlier, on June 26, 2023.

Wait, What was My Photo Stream Again?

Good question! It’s been around for so long that it might be akin to a dinosaur in tech years. My Photo Stream was the platform that allowed you to channel your inner photographer and share your snapshots across your devices. Sadly, it’s now off to join the tech fossil record.

Okay, So What Now?

Fear not, fellow tech enthusiasts! iCloud Photos is ready to step into the spotlight. If you’re already using iCloud Photos on all your devices, then sit back, relax, and keep snapping those cat pics — your memories are as safe as a squirrel’s nut stash.

If iCloud Photos doesn’t sound familiar, time to roll up those sleeves and follow these steps:

Grab your iPhone or iPad, and navigate to Settings > your name > iCloud. If “On” is proudly displayed next to Photos, you’re golden! If not, well…

Time to save your precious photo memories manually or embrace the future with iCloud Photos.

But What About My Photos?

If you’re rocking the free version of iCloud Photos, fear not! You can still manually backup your photos to your Mac or Windows computer, much like squirrels stash their nuts away for winter.

And because we’re all about that extra level of safety (and because one can never have too many nuts), we strongly suggest considering an additional backup solution. You can squirrel away your photos on an external hard drive or even a cloud-based backup service — keeping your memories safer than a porcupine at a balloon party.
